Making Money Software

Forrester anticipates different classes of channel partners will be affected differently. Distributors and implementation focused VARs will be hit the hardest. Channel partners are expecting to make less money in hardware and software sales and more in managed services and application hosting.

Managed services is the hottest area of growth, but everyone wants in on this game - different types of channel partners, vendors, and telcos alike. And vendors are making deals with telcos that are making channels very uncomfortable. For example, the Windows Azure Platform Appliance and Office 365 are available only to select telcos. Forrester predicts a reduction in the number of channel partner companies of about 12% to 15% as the managed services battle heats up.

Forrester does identify some alternate markets for channels to pursue. The firm's research suggests that many organizations remain hesitant about public clouds and will prefer public-private hybrid clouds, increasing the demand for hybrid cloud integration services. Forrester suggests that these services may be "low-hanging fruit" that channels should take advantage of.

Forrester notes that channel partners are also expanding their businesses into application development, outsourcing, smart computing (or, as we've been calling it, "the Internet of Things") integration, and financial consulting.

Forrester offers the following recommendations to vendors seeking to maintain mutually beneficial relationships with channel partners include:

  • Help them overcome business model roadblocks

  • Make them better marketers

  • Connect them to each other in a collaborative ecosystem

For the better part of a decade, Apple has consistently shown that having a comparatively small market share by volume is no impediment to making money, and lots of it. Despite the company's PC share hovering in single digits through most of the 2000s, Apple has been far and away the most profitable computer hardware maker for many years (and generally coming second only to software-centric Microsoft in generating cash). Now that inverse relationship between share and profits continues into the mobile space.

Analysis firm Canaccord Genuity estimates that Apple accounts for only 3.9 percent of total global volume sales of mobile handsets. However, the iPhones sold in the third quarter of 2010 accounted for approximately 47 percent of all profits in the industry. While the vast majority of handsets sold around the world still fall into the feature phone segment, smartphones are where the money is.

Smartphone specialists Apple, HTC, and RIM grabbed 71 percent of the net profits. Even Motorola -- which has had a long string of money-losing quarters -- has finally returned to the black thanks to its emphasis on Android-based smartphones. Nokia may be outselling everyone else by a wide gap, but they certainly don't seem to be making it up on volume.

Even with Android as a whole gaining market share, the proliferation of different phones will limit economies of scale for manufacturers -- so Apple looks likely to continue its cellphone profitability for some time to come.

The internet is the new playing field for making money. In this day and age, information is the product that we buy. If you can grasp that fact, then you are already well on your way to making money online.

The easiest way to make money online is to act as a person who refers products and information. This is called an affiliate marketer. You're in the business of making others aware of certain products, e-books, software, and so on. All you need to start making money is a computer with an internet connection, a word processing program, and if you have one a website, although you don't have to have one.

The first thing you need to do to start making money online, is to open an account with Clickbank. This is the premier site that offers thousands of products that you can promote. It is fast to sign up and is also free.

Once you have your Clickbank account set up, think about the things that you enjoy doing. Maybe you like to cook. So go to the marketplace in Clickbank and type in cooking. There you might find some great e-books or software all about cooking. Then again, you might not; some topics just are fleshed out here.

Okay, lets assume you found a great e-book on cooking. You've read the pitch page and it looks pretty informative and enticing to you. Great! This is what you want, since this is what the people who are going to be buying this product are going to read, before they buy the product.

Now it's time to write an article. This article should be around 350 to 500 words long. It's okay if you go longer than that, but I wouldn't suggest going lower. Write your article as an informative piece. Maybe something that people might not readily know about cooking. Then, at the bottom of the article write something like this: "If you would like to know more about the secrets of cooking, click on the link provided." This is where you would include the link from the hoplink part of the Clickbank page for that product.

Now that you have the article written, you need to submit it to article directories such as goarticles.com or searchwarp.com. These places will post your article for others to read and post on their sites. This allows your article to circulate out onto the internet and to the computers of potential buyers.

What you are doing is creating information for people, in order to lead them to a great product that you think would benefit many in their kitchen. Once a person clicks and buys the product, the sales will show up in your account at Clickbank and you will be sent a check soon after.

Affiliate marketing is a great way to get started making money online without having any money to start with. It's also called article marketing; either way it is a powerful way to get rich. It's not uncommon for an experienced article marketer to make thousands per week just by writing a few articles a day.

If you would like to learn more about affiliate marketing and would like a free website built for you, with hosting, then click on the link provided. You will learn all the advanced techniques to affiliate marketing and will get you started making money tomorrow.
